Many thanks to Veronica Stilu who made the prosfora in September and to Vasilica Stilu for making the prosfora for the month of October. Jennie and Veta Babu will make the prosfora for the month of November. Bea Michaels will make it for December. Thank you ladies!

There will also be a collection of food for the needy . Bring nonperishable food items and deposit them in a box downstairs by the staircase. All items collected will be distributed to the needy before Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

We would like to thank Chirata Jombur, Sultana Culcearu, Maria Pusztay, Letitia Neagu, Aspasia Margarit, and Emil Sipos who spent more than eight hours to clean the parish house on Thursday, October 30 th, . In addition, Emil Sipos installed a door for the coat closet at the entrance of the house and Sultana Culcearu donated the new draperies for the windows. The parish house really needed a good cleaning from top to bottom and got the “best from the best.” May God bless you and you families for your dedication to our church. Personally, I learned a few cleaning tips which I am going to use on my own house!

DONATING TO YOUR CHURCH

FROM IRA ACCOUNTS

There are many ways to give to God's house. We really need great help. Many of you might be able to use the following suggestion:

The charitable distribution provision of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 has been extended to the year 2009. If you are at least 70 1/2 years old, you can donate as much as $100,000 from your IRA account to your church tax-free. Those distributions can count toward the required minimum distribution that IRA holders who are 70 1/2 must take from their accounts every year.

Donations must go directly from your IRA trustee to our church. It is typically more to your advantage to donate tax deferred investments rather than those on which your have paid taxes.

Contact your tax advisor for specific tax advice about making a donation from your IRA.

Sunday School Corner

Psa. Louisa Todeasa, Director

Sunday School has begun its season combined with St. Nicholas Sunday School. Please bring your children to school. It is very important to educate them in the faith and a good place to meet other friends. Please call Psa. Louisa or Father Cornel at 203-261-3490 for more info and to sign up!

Congratulations to Ryan Karker , a seventh grade student in Psa. Louisa's class. During the “Found Poetry” unit, her students used words and phrases from the marriage service to fashion poetry. Ryan's poem won Third Prize in the Antiochian diocese's national Creative Arts Festival!

St. Dimitrie Church Construction Progress

Report No. 4 by Sam Giavara P.,E.

OVERVIEW :

Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate with us over the last month and we were slowed down a little but we hope to make it up in the next four weeks. We have nearly completed all of the outside building work. The building brick work is virtually complete and only the stucco work remains (60% completed to date). Soon we will install the gutters and begin the caulking of joints on the exterior of the building. The site work is nearly complete with only the paving of the front parking lot and installation of front steps and sidewalks. We will complete the final grading around the building and the remaining light poles will be installed on the west and south side of the church this month thereby completing all the site lighting. The underground 20,000 gal water tank and 2000 gal propane tank have been ordered and will be installed upon delivery to the site. I'm optimistic that all of the site work and exterior of the building will be virtually completed in November.

Regarding the building interior, we encountered major rework of the structural steel system in order to raise the ceilings in the altar and mezzanine areas. We are replacing the flat ceilings that were too low and installing vaulted ceilings that will make a dramatic improvement to the original design. Also, the original design and installation of the fire protection water lines & system was rejected by the Town and as a result we had to dig up the concrete floors and building foundations to install new lines and drains. We previously reported that the elevator pit and shaft were improperly installed. We are now in the process of saw cutting the concrete pit in order to make the proper size adjustments to fit the elevator. In this regard, we need to replace the steel columns and bracing as well. We were required by the Town to remove and replace two interior staircases. We are in the process of installing new ones that will meet local and state building codes.

The Town of Easton required us to hire an “Architect of Record.” We brought on Stephan Nousiopoulos, with extensive large project experience. He has been actively engaged on a day to day basis addressing the many design and construction conflicts. The redesign and new plans will reflect the changes made in the lobby (narthex), church assembly and altar areas, mezzanine (choir area) and the lower level (hall, kitchen and office areas). In addition, we made changes to the exterior of the building that included raising the windows in dome and hanging some of the roof lines due to conflicts. We redesigned the stucco treatment and added precast concrete weather sills around the entire church, precast concrete window sills to all the windows and installed precast concrete key stones above the windows and archways. We added front steps, new railing system and reconfigured the front parking lot, entrance drive and handicap access and sidewalks.

The following is a list of remaining major tasks to complete the construction with an estimated completion date:

2008 COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS CARD

November, 2008

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Dimitrie,

I write this letter with the prayer that the Coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ will bring you joy, peace, and blessings from above. The Birth of our Lord is the good news for all humankind!

Our church will continue the tradition of sending a Community Christmas Card this season. The need to unite and celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ makes your participation in this card both special and important since our strength of our community lies in every individual's participation.

We hope you will choose to be a part of this unique form of Christmas greeting during this most special and joyous time. In lieu of sending individual Christmas cards, we ask that you make a donation to the church so that we can add your name to our Community Card. This card will be sent to over 700 members and friends of our Parish. By participating, you will save on postage and help our church.

May your Christmas be blessed with His love . . . and may the year ahead be filled with peace and joy! As the Angel says, "For behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people: for unto you is born this day in the city of David a savior, which is Christ the Lord" (Luke 2: 10-11).

Please fill in the following form and send it with your donation to St. Dimitrie Church as soon as possible.

Faithfully yours, Rev. Fr. Cornel Todeasa

Please include my name in the Community Christmas Card!

Print name exactly as you wish it to appear:

Return this form no later than Sunday, December 14, 2008

2008 Fellowship Hour Schedule

We encourage those parishioners who would like to schedule a Fellowship Hour (Coffee An') to please sign up ahead of time and at least by Thursday of the week you wish to sponsor since the calendar fills up quickly.

The Fellowship Hour can be sponsored in memory of departed loved ones, in celebration of a birthday or anniversary, or for any other special event. The cost of sponsoring the Coffee Hour (where the Parish Council buys and prepares the coffee and pastries) is $50. You may also bring your own food and coffee and provide setup and cleanup afterwards .

Please note : Some Sundays are already taken for special events (* *). There will also be some Sundays when auxiliary organizations will have an activity planned that is not noted in this calendar.
