God Builds His Church
Many people would agree that we need God the most when we find ourselves in times of crises: when we lose our jobs, when we have to go to the hospital for surgery, or when we lose someone dear to us. These are the times when we turn to God most ardently. In difficult times we plead with Him for help; we cry aloud, asking Him for guidance and support; we ask the Church and other people to pray for us.
Many people humbly come back to God in these times of tribulations. Suddenly the church becomes important to them. Here, in the church, is found support or comfort from God above, but also from the people of God, the church members.
For a long time, I held strong to the belief that we mostly need to pray to God in times of crisis. But recently I made a change of heart. I now believe that, while indeed it is important to pray to God in times of trouble, we need to pray to Him in good times even more.
I remember talking to my friend at the Virginia Theological Seminary years back, when I came to the U.S. on a scholarship to study. The question we were discussing was When do you pray better or more? He said that he prayed better when he was happy, when everything was good in his life. I took the opposite position. I told him that I pray better in times of crisis. At that time, I thought that this was just a matter of a difference of perception. He had a different perception from mine because he was living in America where most of the time things were good, and I had come from Communist Romania, where things were bad most of the time. This explanation satisfied me at that time.
But now, the more I think about it, I realize that on another level he was so right. Here is my humble explanation why I made the turnaround.
We need to pray in good times to God, for that is the time when we mostly tend to forget about Him. These are the times when we often believe that we are in charge and that we can do it all by ourselves. We may begin to think that we deserve these blessings, or even more tragically, we start to believe that these blessings are in fact our doings and not God's gifts to us. These are the times when we can easily depart from God, and exclude Him from our lives. These are the times when we get in trouble, when we let our guard down, when we overestimate our potential.
I write this to remind myself (and you) and to encourage us all to keep on praying for our new church. We are so blessed to have a new and amazing church in a wonderful location. A feeling or the power of pride can easily overcome us, especially when in complete sincerity we invite people to come and see what a wonderful church we have built in Easton. In such moments we tend to forget that without the help of God we could not have done any such thing! In our exuberance and joy we might even forget that we are not there yet. We do see the light at the end of the tunnel, but we are not there yet! Our work is not finished!
When I am in the new church and I feel the presence of God, when I am overwhelmed by His blessings, I pray. I thank Him earnestly for being good to us. In my prayer of thanksgiving I try never to forget that He has built His church and that we, you and I, are his blessed instruments in His divine endeavor.

The annual St. Dimitrie Church Festival took place on Friday, September 25, Saturday September 26, and Sunday September 27 on our parish grounds. It was a very successful event for our parish. We thank all members of our church who were very actively involved in this annual BIG social event. We especially thank the chairpersons, Ovidiu Ocrain and Patti Johnson, and the president of our Ladies' Auxiliary, Ann Nastu. More details will be given in the next bulletin.
We are very glad that many members of our parish sponsor the coffee hour on Sundays after the Divine Liturgy. However, we would like to inform the sponsors about their responsibilities.
The responsibilities of those sponsoring a coffee hour include preparation, setting up, and cleaning up. It's been very hard to get volunteers to prepare the coffee hour.
The Ladies' Auxiliary always welcomes new members. Please join our hardworking organization. The annual membership fee is only $25.00. With the new church being built in Easton, we could use lots of help and fresh new ideas.
